About Me
I remember my college writing class eons ago. We had to compose a fictional short story, and I had absolutely no creative idea in mind. I ended up submitting a tale having nearly the same storyline as the Ugly Duckling…except with fish. It was a lame attempt at completing an assignment. I was not a writer; I was an educator.
God made it clear that education was my future when I and some other students in my college Chemistry class formed a study group. I ended up taking the lead of the group sessions by providing worksheets with practice problems. Of course, I had to learn how to solve them so I could teach the solutions to my peers which greatly helped me succeed in passing the course. It was the beginning of my love for teaching and creating lessons, worksheets, and other activities to help my students learn and appreciate biology (the best subject!). Apparently, I did have some creative abilities after all!
I retired from teaching the first time when we had our first son. My classroom was now my home, and my students were my own children. My boys would probably testify that I took every opportunity to turn a seemingly normal conversation or event into a learning experience, often with a spiritual application. They are what drove me to continue creating, writing, and teaching outside a formal classroom. Their little minds were eager to learn about the Lord and His creation, and I was both honored and obliged to assist in molding them. Today, they are four young men who love and follow Jesus. And I couldn’t be more thankful.
Emily discovered her love for writing Christian content when she led a MOPS (Mother’s of Preschoolers) group at her local church and wrote a monthly newsletter with devotional for the young mothers who attended. As a mother to four inquisitive boys, she had ample opportunities to turn their questions into lessons as they grew and matured. At each stage of their lives, she used her training in education to write age-appropriate Bible studies, Sunday School lessons, and even a mid-week curriculum for her church to teach her sons and other children to know and love God’s Word. Out of these lessons came many poems and stories. With her children now grown, she continues to write studies for young adults and women in her community. Emily holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Northern Kentucky University) and a certificate in Biblical & Theological Studies (Cedarville University). Previously, she taught at Notre Dame Academy, KY (’95-’99), Schilling School for Gifted Children (’14-’21), and Providence Extension Program, a Christian homeschool program (’22-’23). She is co-founder of ApologiaPublishing.com. Emily has been married to Todd for more than 30 years. Together, they enjoy traveling and cheering on their sons in their own life achievements.
